Company Sector: Tourism Number of Employees: 360 (p/t and f/t)

Groundwork undertook an on-site resilience review with TA Hotel Collections White Lion Hotel in Aldeburgh in December 2013. The review used the output of the online Resilience Healthcheck at businessresiliencehealthcheck.co.uk to discuss in detail and explore ways in which the company could improve its level of resilience under climate change. Furthermore, data was made available on purchases during 2012-2013 which was used to carry out a supply chain resilience mapping exercise for the hotel.

  • Implementing a group wide Business Continuity Plan
  • Improvements to sites at risk of flooding and associated flood plans
  • Measures to reduce premiums or policy excesses
  • Critically of suppliers; 85% of spend through suppliers is through those classed as ‘critical’ in supplying goods to the site

Since the review, the hotel group have implemented a number of recommendations such as setting up a Business Continuity Plan team, reviewing and improving site flood plans, installing additional analogue phone lines, undertaking an IT and communications audit and reviewing its insurance and the critically of its suppliers.

Having recently experienced the East Coast tidal surge in December 2013, we were acutely aware of the risks of flooding to our coastal properties and businesses. The resilience review undertaken by Groundwork Suffolk was consequently very timely indeed, and their recommendations have been very helpful to us in our forward business planning. – Jenny Hill, Systems Manager
